We went to Disneyland this afternoon and stayed until after dark to enjoy the holiday lights.
They did a great job decorating the park this year, kudos to the Disney folk!
Tuesday afternoon is a good time to visit the park, way less humanity milling about. Went right on Pirates, Pooh and Snow White. Why oh WHY is there always a huge line at Peter Pan? I mean I really like the ride but not THAT much better than anything else in Fantasyland. When we pass by there is a line filling the front of Peter Pan every single time…go figure.
The walk through area of Sleeping Beauty’s castle re-opened last week for the first time since 2001. A nice addition to the visit, mostly the “improvements” are the addition of 3-D vingettes that replace the drawings and dolls of yesteryear. The castle itself sparkles for the holiday! Glitter snow, lights and Christmas ornaments everywhere!
Dinner was had at the Plaza Inn on the circle end of Main St. and it was actually open ! We tend to think of this as “the place that is always closed except for birthday parties!”.
The Holiday Special was Prime Rib, Green and Yellow beans, Mashed Potatoes and gravy, roll and horseradish.
Bob and I shared a plate and I am glad we did , it was a huge serving for a Disney dining place. The sun had set , all the twinkly lights were glowing brightly from Main St. there were two huge well decorated trees inside the Plaza Inn as well.
Wonderful , Christmasy feelings are still being felt when we head back to Downtown Disney and visit a couple of shops.
Dept 56 had big sale signs all over ..too big . Yes indeed they are closing all their retail stores…very sad for them and another sign of our tanking national economy.
So we boarded the last ride of the evening(the tram to the parking structure!) and will return for another Christmastime visit at Disney next week with Ayleen and George.
We really are spoiled living so close that we can visit Disneyland anytime and escape the real world for a little while.
