MCM Mid-Century Modern

This ABC Wednesday I offer Mid-Century Modern for the letter “M”.

The term is used to describe the Modern style Movement from approximately 1945 to 1965.  Think split level tiered Medallion homes and Jetsonesque poured concrete slab walls with geometric designs embossed into them. MCM is not just for those amazing airport terminals  and homes of the 50s & 60s…it is descriptive of furniture and accessories of the era too. Think Season 1 of Mad Men, Danish Modern, Eames Chairs, Molded fiberglass and coated wire with hairpin legs for the patio.

Freestanding Danish fireplaces of bright orange or avocado green metal, atomic everything from Sputnik lamps to atom burst wall clocks.

Bark cloth with bold geometric designs were popular as drapery and upholstery fabrics.bcoajetr
