California Avocado grove

This Calavo Grove sign is the sort of sign one would see on fences and posts all over Southern California where the groves were once plentiful.

There are still a few in Riverside County and plenty in North County San Diego. This sign always had a couple of companions, a “NO TRESPASSING” and the sign that laid out the penalty for that crime in whatever county the signage was posted.  One cannot just pull over to the side of the road and pick fruit!

A vintage view of Avocados picking and growing in California.

  1. Darn, I wanted to pick some fruit!

  2. Love avocados – are they not grown as much in California now? Maybe like our apples, – everyone is into wine and have planted vineyards instead of orchards.

I also love avocados…but you must eat them at just the right time.

  4. So a very important sign!

  5. I really like those vintage cloth-like postcards. Fresh avacados would be so luscious.
